Anecdote | "My loving father, Arthur Gordon Lewis, loved to play Santa Claus for his two boys. Then he and Mom would be up all night putting out big gifts like games and bikes. It was a special Christmas when a new tent filled the entire living room. At the age of 11 I found my first marimba by the tree, my father's favorite instrument, and the same one I have played in churches of this land and Europe, which I recently sent to Jonathan. Both Jon and Nathaniel now play well as I heard them during our Thanksgiving family reunion in Spokane WA. Dad usually filled our stockings with more practical items like toothpaste, pens and pencils plus an apple or orange to fill them up. Our celebration continued into the afternoon with a huge dinner at Grandmother Franny's house on Davis. Grandpa Charlie wanted all his four boys and daughter Helen and their families there at his big table, about 20 people. Tthe delicious meals ended with both pie and cake. Then we had more gifts to exchange including Grandma's tasty homemade chocolates and bon-bons. Uncle Harold had been a clown, so he put on a crazy act and played and sang old funny songs on the banjo or piano." memories shared in Art's Christmas cart to Mariana Kopacz in 2004 | |
