So, Charlie moved in with his mother-in-law, Lidwina Geiger, in her Detroit home. Patsy and the children moved in later and they all stayed for 9 1/2 years until Charlie retired. Then they moved back to their Roseville home, which had been rented out during their absense.

Anecdote*16 August 1941Lidwina Ann Schulte; Connie went to live with Lidwina and Ed Geiger at the age of 16, after her parents died, and stayed until her marriage to Russ. She had briefly lived with her older sister, Olga who was an alcoholic and did not care well for Connie. When Lidwina went to chew Olga out, Connie took her clothes out to Lidwina's car and said she was either going home with Lidwina or jumping off the Belle Isle Bridge. Connie and Russ' children called Lidwina Grandma and Connie called Lidwina Mom. 
Anecdote*After her parents died, Connie went to live with Lidwina and Ed Geiger until she married Russ. Lidwina's mother and Connie's father were siblings and Lidwina became known as Grandma to Connie's children.
