Anecdote* | "The Kaisers, Wiethoffs, Knoches, Muers, Schrages, Pultes, Lingemanns, Diemels, Sommers, Schultes and many other families emigrated from the same region of Germany to the Detroit area in the mid to late 1880s. They were all from a small area of Westphalia known as the Sauerland. My wife and I visited her Kaiser cousins still living in the village of Obersalwey that is only about one mile from Niedersalwey. To this day the residents of Niedersalwey and Obersalwey worship at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Eslohe.
