Anecdote*15 April 1945Philippine Islands; Louis' commanding officer, Lt. Robert A. Babcock of Company H, 127th Infantry, wrote a letter of condolence 15 April 1945 to Louis' father, Frank. It said, in part:
     "Louis had been a member of this company for nearly two years. During this time he became the close friend of many. We shall not soon forget his cheerful smile and pleasant greetings. Your son was seriously wounded on the second of February by shrapnel from an enemy artillery shell. This happened near the village of Santa Maria, Luzon, Phillippine Islands, while we were making an advance into territory held by the enemy. Louis was removed to the nearest aid station and then sent to the closest general hospital. The wounds inflicted were very severe. The shrapnel from the exploding shell penetrated his spine and a state of paralysis set in At the hospital in the early morning hours of February 18th, Louis passed away. He was laid to rest by the Catholic Chaplain of the hospital."

AnecdoteDuring the first semester of Fourth Grade, Margery stayed at the Schulte farm house in Detroit, recalling later the antics of the Schulte boys: "one of the boys was helping his mother carry a big tub and he dropped his part on purpose, so Aunt Minnie chased him across the field (they had 10 acres) with a broom. Minnie had a hard time getting her boys off to school every morning, even though they lived across the street from Assumption Grotto. But on the weekends they were up at 4 a.m. getting into mischief."

AnecdoteWhen Margery and her sister, Agnes, were young girls they took piano lessons. Margery also took Hawiaan guitar lessons for a year, but said she preferred the piano as it was easier for her to follow the notes. 
AnecdoteHer father's store had one of the few telephones in town. When people would see Margery come to their door, they wondered what news she was bringing. Her family did own a radio, but in order to save the battery her dad only wanted to listen to the news.
