Anecdote*Albert F. Trombley, Known as "Bert" to his family & friends, was born on July 31,1893 in St. Clair Shores,Michigan. He was the fourth child in a family of five(two sisters & two brothers)

Albert was only two years old when his father died. His youngest brother wasn't even born yet (his mother, Mary, was six months pregnant).

Approximately 13 Years later (in 1908), his mother died of cancer, leaving behind a young family(Cecilia-23, Frederick-19,Lucy-17,Albert-15, and Isadore-13). To prevent the family from separating, Lucy, the third born child raised Albert & Isadore.

After the death of Mary, Albert's mother, the land that their parents had owned was divided among the children. There were five lots on Jefferson and ten acres on 10 mile road. In order for the land to be distributed fairly, each childs name was literally placed in a hat. The only name that was excluded was Lucy. She automatically recieved the store/house on Jefferson and its corresponding two acre lot on 10 mile road because she took care of the children.

The remaining four children (Cecilia, Frederick, Albert and Isadore), drew names out of the hat. Each one had the markings to what they drew. That is how they recieved their lot on Jefferson with the corresponding lot on 10 mile road.

Prior to his marriage to Ida, he had worked in Detroit, Michigan as a conductor on the Cross Town Line(street cars)

In the 1920's , after he was married, he owned his own business. He had his own grater and tractors. In those days the streets were unpaved. Instead they made ditches on both sides and then would grade the middle. This is how he made his living. He also went into the house moving business.

In 1929 the Great Depression began. In order for Albert's family to survive during this time, Bert worked as a carpenter in the CCC- The Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC camps were created by Congress in 1933 to help people during these difficult times. The CCC provided employment to thousands of young men in conservation projects. Albert and his neighbor went up to the CCC camps to build cabins or cottages where people lived. They would be gone for a week to ten days. They came home for a short time, then returning to continue their work. That is how they made their money during the depression. They also relied on their garden for food. After the depression Bert continued in the house moving business until he retired.

Note*A Klaas Cornelis Zijlman married Martje Jans Veldman, they had a son named Hendrik, b. c. 1815 and another son named Derk, b c. 1820; Derk had two sons, Klaas and Hendrik Jan; Hendrik had a son named Peter, who had a son named David Zylman. Klaas Cornelis may be the same man who married Geertruid Pieters Vos and had a son named Cornelius in 1807, if Geertruid died before 1815, however, Genlias does not have a Geertruid Zijlman or similar name who died in that time period - MK's research. (David Zylman contacted MK via email in 2005 asking if there is a connection btw the Zylman's in MK's database and those of David's ancestry.)
