Note* | Lloyd Barber Jr., 70 - Former Oregon and Alaska resident Lloyd L. Barber Jr., 70, died Feb. 11, 2005, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after a long illness. A visitation will be at 10 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, Las Vegas. Born July 11, 1934, in Portland, Ore., Mr. Barber attended Lincoln High School and Gresham High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1963 and attended Clark Junior College in Vancouver, Wash. He lived in Alaska from 1969 to 2001 before moving to Las Vegas. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and playing the craps tables in Las Vegas. He was a former member of the BPOE in Oregon and the VFW in Alaska. He fished commercially for shrimp and halibut in Alaska and had unfulfilled political aspirations, having run unsuccessfully for state office in Alaska. Family wrote: "He worked in the printing business for several years and operated computer and copier businesses before finding his true calling as a paralegal. He loved the challenge of researching a legal strategy to help his clients. He devoted his time working hard at playing the odds to help his many clients through the legal system. He was loving, caring and fun to be around, quick to make friends and to make you laugh with one of his many lawyer jokes. He will be missed by all who knew him." He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet; daughter, Linda Starr; sons and spouses, John and Colleen and Steven and Terri, all of the Lower 48; granddaughters, Drew and Misty; grandson, Alex; and siblings and spouses, Dianne and Ron Durham, Wayne Barber, John and Deanna Ashmon, Michael Ashmon, Clifford and Susan Ashmon, Sid and Deborah Johansen, and Jerry and Peggy Johansen. - from Anchorage Daily News, obits published 17 Feb 2005 | |
