Anecdote*Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WWII and was aboard the USS Utah the day Peral Harbor was attacked. He helped a fellow service-man to safety. He was called back to service during the Korean Was because of his specialized training in underwater demolition and servid 12 years in all. =

Back home in IA he served as a Park Officer in numerous State Parks. After he and his wife, Lois, moved to Pleasantville, Lewis was the Water Superintendent of Lakes and Rivers until his retirement in 1981.

Lewis was very active in the Pleasantville community, serving two terms as Mayor, on the city council and past Commander and Treasurer of the American Legion. He was Grand Marshall of July 4th festivities. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, NASCAR, mushroom hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

Note*Lewis was survived by his children: Letha Gasparovich and LuAnne Simpson, both of Pleasantville, Larry Boers of Winlick WA, Lloyd Boers, Lance Boers and Leah Boers all of Pleasantville; 10 grandchildren; three gr-grandchildren; many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Lois; grandson, Josh Simpson and his sister, Gwenith Shelton.
