CauseDeathwas despondent due to chronic ill health and loss of his job. According to his wife, George awoke about one in the morning and left in his car. He drove to a garage owned by Alfred Smith, ran his tow rope over the mechanism used to block cars and fastened a noose. His neck was not broken in the fall and death was caused by strangulation. In the morning Alfred found George's body.
